Does HGH have Anti-AGing Benefits?

In 2019, researchers from Stanford and UCLA found biological age markers in humans reversed significantly after a regimen of HGH injections. HGH was combined with Metformin, DHEA, Vitamin D and Zinc.

Does HGH Slow Aging?

Human growth hormone (HGH) is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that plays a key role in growth, metabolism, and body composition. Some prominent researchers believe that HGH therapy in aging adults can help slow the aging process.

Some key HGH research has shown that growth hormone therapy promotes:

  • Cellular regeneration
  • Improves lean body mass
  • Reduces abdominal fat
  • Increases skin firmness in older adults
  • Improves body mass index

HGH is important for normal growth and development. It became abundantly clear that children with HGH deficiency didn’t grow in stature normally to their peers. HGH became a standard of care for children with this medical problem.

Can Growth Hormone help Older Adults?

Research findings on Human Growth Hormone, summarized from the famous Dr. Rudman study: July 5, 1990.

The New England Journal of Medicine

EFFECTS OF HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE IN MEN OVER 60 YEARS OLD

[DOWNLOAD Dr. Rudman HGH RESEARCH HERE]

Dr. Rudman’s Findings:

  • Treatment was given for a period of 6 months
  • Ages ranged from 61 to 81 years
  • Men were injected at 8:00 AM, with intervals between HGH injections only 1 or 2 days
  • The men followed a healthy diet directed by a dietician
  • The study found no significant change in body weight
  • Lean body mass increased by 8.8%
  • Fat decreased by 14.4%
  • Skin thickness increased by 7.1%
  • An increase in bone density was observed

We encourage you to read the research. Of course, it is only one study, but if we chose to we could list many more positive health studies on human growth hormone.  We would be hard-pressed to find any legitimate human growth hormone research, when administered in normal physiological human doses, offering any negative patient outcomes, excluding those with cancer.

One can take a brief look at the above Rudman findings, as well as other good human growth hormone research, and see how the benefits of proper medically supervised HGH replacement therapy actually improves key CHRONIC DISEASE risk factors for aging adults, primarily those related to the two leading causes of death, heart disease and cancers.

Who requires HGH?

Human growth hormone (HGH) is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that plays a key role in growth and development. HGH is important for normal growth and development during childhood and adolescence, and it helps to regulate body composition, body fluids, muscle and bone growth, sugar and fat metabolism, and possibly heart function.

HGH is released into the bloodstream in pulses, with the highest levels occurring during the first hour of sleep and during exercise. Its levels naturally decline with age.

HGH is also used as a prescription medication to treat certain medical conditions, such as growth hormone deficiency and short stature. However, it is important to note that HGH is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of aging or for enhancing athletic performance, and its safety and effectiveness have not been fully evaluated in these areas.

Average Growth Hormone Decline with Age

Human growth hormone (GH) is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that plays a key role in growth and development. GH levels naturally decline with age, and this decline is thought to be one of the contributing factors to the aging process.

The average GH decline by age is not well established, as GH levels can vary widely among individuals and are affected by a number of factors, including genetics, lifestyle, and overall health. However, some studies have suggested that GH levels may decrease by as much as 90% or more between the ages of 25 and 75.

It is important to note that while GH levels do decline with age, this does not necessarily mean that GH supplements will be effective in slowing the aging process or improving physical appearance. There is little scientific evidence to support these claims, and the safety and effectiveness of GH supplements have not been fully evaluated. The use of GH supplements is also illegal in some countries and is banned by many sports organizations.

After the third decade of life, there is a progressive decline of growth hormone secretion by approximately 15% for every decade of adult life.

HGH doses for Anti-Aging

Typical doses used for elevating HGH in adults treated for growth hormone deficiency start at 1-2 IUs, 3-5 days per week. Patients undergoing growth hormone replacement therapy are watched closely. Periodic blood tests are performed in order to fine-tune the optimal dose.

HGH Anti-Aging Clinics

Many Anti-Aging clinics in the United States do not prescribe HGH therapy, or they prescribe other homeopathic remedies or peptides which don’t offer the same effect as bioidentical growth hormone. There are two primary reasons why: 1) HGH is 3-times more expensive in the United States than in many other countries, so patients just cannot afford treatment, and 2) regulatory bodies make it extremely difficult for doctors to prescribe growth hormone therapy in adults. the therapy remains controversial among consensus-based medical establishments.

International medical clinics operating in medical tourism destinations differ. HGH has not been ridiculed and demonized and is much less controversial. Therefore, prescriptions are much easier to get legally, and the price of the treatment is usually 1/3 the price of the same medications by the same manufacturers in the United States.

Growth Hormone Blood Tests

There are several methods that endocrinologists (doctors who specialize in hormone disorders) use to test for growth hormone (GH) levels in the body.

Some of these methods include:

  1. IGF-1 Blood test: This is the most common method for measuring GH levels. A healthcare provider will take a blood sample and send it to a laboratory for analysis.
  2. Stimulation test: This test involves administering a substance (such as arginine or clonidine) that stimulates GH production, and then measuring the GH levels in the blood before and after the stimulation.
  3. Suppression test: This test involves administering a substance (such as glucose) that suppresses GH production, and then measuring the GH levels in the blood before and after the suppression.
  4. GH-releasing hormone (GHRH) plus arginine test: This test involves administering GHRH, which stimulates GH production, and arginine, an amino acid that enhances the effects of GHRH. GH levels in the blood are then measured before and after the administration of the substances.

The test used at our clinics in Costa Rica and Mexico is the standard blood test with the indirect assay of IGF-1.

More information on the levels we look for to establish a beneficial therapeutic effect in patients is listed int he table below.

Popular Method for Indirect Assay of HGH and IGF-1

Pituitary Description of Blood Test IGF-1 Range ng/mL
IGF-1 IGF-1 levels are directly related to growth hormone secretion and/or HGH therapy. Best levels for healthy adults is in the upper physiological range (290-315ng/ml). Some patients will require HGH dosage adjustments to achieve optimal levels of IGF-1. 200-320 ng/ml

The HGH / IGF-1 table above was reconstructed from the book Dr. Jeffry S. Life, M.D. Ph.D., The Life Plan: How Any Man Can Achieve Lasting Health, Great Sex, and a Stronger, Leaner Body, Edition May 2011, page 323.

Age Biomarkers Before and After - Horvath Clock

Research performed in 2019 by research from Stanford University and UCLA, found that HGH therapy combined with metformin (a diabetic drug), DHEA, Vitamin D, and Zinc showed a reversal in the biological age of individuals undergoing the therapy.

What is a Biological Age Clock or Epigenetic Clock?

Epigenetic “clocks” are used by researchers to study the effects of biological aging. These biological clocks surpass chronological age measurements in accuracy for estimating biological age. In research done on HGH and aging, researchers used these biomarkers to calculate the anti-aging effect of therapy. After 1 year of treatment, researchers observed a reduction of 1.5 years in age from the baseline. The net effect is a 2.5-year decrease in age span over a 1-year people.  This study was limited but its findings are in line with what we find in the clinical setting after treating patients since 2013.
